TWO-DAYS SEMINAR CUM WORKSHOP WAS HELD ON JUNE 29 & 30, 2019 AT BIHAR MUSEUM ON THE ROLE OF DESIGN IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF HANDICRAFTS

Upendra Maharathi Shilp Anusandhan Sansthan (UMSAS) organised a Seminar Cum Workshop under R&D Scheme at Bihar Museum on June 29 & 30, 2019 on the topic, "Role of Design in the Development of Handicrafts."

This Seminar cum Workshop is being implemented under the 'Integrated Development and Promotion of Handicrafts (IDPH)' project as a part of Market promotion and is seventh in a row. Till now, seven  Seminars  cum Workshops have been organised at following places: - Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Patna, Bhagalpur, Arrah, Darbhanga and Patna (Bihar Museum) respectively.

The advisor to the Bihar CM, Sri Anjani Kumar Singh was the Chief Guest of the  Seminar at Bihar Bhawan. Five renowned Designers and scholars graced the occasion as they spoke out in detail about the designs from varied angle.

The Secretary of the Industries department Mr. Lokesh Kumar Singh and the Director of Industries cum Director UMSAS, Mr Pankaj Kumar Singh were also present in the inaugural session. The Key-note address was delivered by the Deputy Development Officer (DDO) cum Nodal Officer of UMSAS Mr. Ashok Kumar Sinha.

The five Resource Persons of the Seminar were

Mrs Sujata Prasad (New Delhi)
Mrs Anandhi Dasraj (New Delhi)
 Prof (Dr.) Charu Smita Gupta (New Delhi),
Mr. Mushtak Khan (New Delhi) and
Dr. Mihir Bhole (Ahmedabad).

Mrs Sujata Prasad and Mrs Anandhi Dasraj are associated with Asian Heritage Foundation, a renowned organisation functioning under world-fame designer Mr. Rajeev Sethy.

 Prof (Dr.) Charu Smita Gupta is an anthropologist and museologist, with a PhD from Kolkata University, has devoted nearly forty years for the research and growth in fields of anthropology, museology, handicrafts ,textiles and fashion.

All of three speakers spoke in the Technical Sessions of the first day.

Mr Mihir Bhole is the Senior faculty from NID, Ahmedabad. 

Mr. Mushtak Khan was former Deputy Director of Crafts Museum, New Delhi.

In the post lunch-session of the second day, UMSAS Team presented the Powerpoint Presentation on the subject: - 'Significance of UMSAS and its major intervention through IDPH Scheme'. The three member team who presented PPT include Prabuddha Biswas, Tapas Ranjan Roy and saket Choudhary.









There were also the live performance and display of four crafts and they included Tikuli, Sujani, Sikki ans Terracotta, which enthralled the audience.
